WiiBuddy 2.1 (Windows fix)

An important update is on the way to the asset store to stop the Windows version from crashing Unity for some of you. If you experience this problem, just know that a solution is on the way.

I see your latest update is from December 2015. Is the project still active? Does the asset work under Windows 10?

    Thx!

Hey, Guillermo. It’s true, I haven’t been able to give this project much love since last December. Lately, I’ve been caught up in a different project and working on its launch, but I definitely want to put out another update for WiiBuddy in the near future. The last time I developed for it, I tested it on Windows 10 and everything was fine, but since then I have heard some feedback of people having trouble. I’m not sure what changed if anything. If you try it out and it doesn’t work for you, for whatever reason, I’ll be happy to give you a refund. Either way, thank you for your interest.

Hey, Guillermo. Just wanted to let you know that I’ve submitted an update to WiiBuddy that should allow it to work with Windows 10 again.

    Hello Greg,
I have a project using WiiBuddy that work fine, except on my new Windows 10 computer. I don’t think it is directly related to WiiBuddy, but since you manage to make it work on Windows 10, then maybe you can help me.

The software is using 2 Wii Balance Board. I manage to connect (RVL-WBC-01 connected) them with the Bluetooth manager. But the blue light on the WBB is still blinking, it is not solid blue. I think that mean that the connection is not fully complete, I think.

    How can I complete it?

I found a solution via a web search, but it does work. I download a Dolphin emulator and manage to fully complete the connection (blue light stop blinking). But my Unity software doesn’t work, with this solution.

    WiiBuddy always return the message:
    spread the message: error-100
    UnityEngine.Debug:LogWarning(Object)
    Wii:FixedUpdate() (at Assets/Plugins/Wii.cs:2681)

And no data is read from the WBB.

    Thanks for any help,

    Marcel

PS: I have also an application using Matlab and WiiLab that give similar problem.

Hey, Marcel. The problem you’re reporting seems to have begun to occur after a specific update made to Windows 10. I believe all of the complaints I’ve heard are specific to the balance board. I asked a friend of mine to try and find the solution and I recently learned that they were unable. It looks like I’m going to have to make an update myself. I’m sorry it’s taken me so long to fix this. Unfortunately, I’m moving into a new apartment this weekend. So it’s very unlikely I’ll be able to dedicate time to this before then. I’ll be sure to get back to you as soon as this is taken care of.

      Respectfully,

      Greg

        Thank you for your answer.
Your update will be a great welcome for the Windows 10 users, I am sure.
        Regards,
        Marcel

I will take a look at the new version in the next days/weeks.

    Hi Greg,

Does WiiBuddy work on Windows 10 by now?

    Thanks for your effort
    Timon

    Hey Greg,
(I could never see my comment actually being posted, so in case this is the 10th time you’re reading this please excuse me!)

hope moving into the new apartment was frictionless.
I am currently doing research where I want to use the Wii Balance Board to measure effects of vection in VR. Before buying the WiiBuddy plugin I had to quick questions:
    – Did you find time to figure out what the problem with Windows 10 was yet?
    – I heard somewhere that the plugin only works with Unity Pro. Is that true? How about the Unity Educational License?

    All the best

I’m hoping to get to fixing the balance board on Windows 10 this weekend at the very latest, hopefully sooner. WiiBuddy only requires Unity Pro if you’re using a version older than Unity 5 (which basically nobody is). Thanks for reaching out.

Awesome! Thanks a lot, Greg! Let me know once you get there 🙂
